I am a historian exploring how data science can unlock new perspectives on Russia’s past and present. My earlier research focused on the Russian Revolution and the civil war. I am currently interested in the ways history is used as a tool of politics and propaganda. By combining historical inquiry with methods such as text mining and computational analysis in R and Python, I examine how the past shapes power and influence.
You can check my Data Science & History portfolio on my blog.
I speak English, Polish, Russian and Ukrainian. Currently, I’m doing my best to learn French.
Academic Background
I completed my MA in History at the University of Warsaw and earned my PhD at the Polish Academy of Sciences. Thanks to a Kościuszko Foundation scholarship, I was a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University’s Davis Center. I am also a recipient of the Diamond Grant of Poland’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the START scholarship, and the Award of the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
Current Work
I work at the Mieroszewski Centre, where I focus on combining historical research with modern data science methodologies to gain deeper insights into complex geopolitical issues.
Media & Outreach
Together with Dr. Ernest Wyciszkiewicz, I co-host the YouTube program "Polihistor 2.0," where we discuss the current developments in Russia and its foreign policy. The channel reaches approximately 250,000 views per month, making it one of the more influential Polish-language platforms on contemporary Russia.
On my social media – especially TikTok and Instagram – I work to show that universities still matter and that academic knowledge doesn’t have to sink into the kind of willful irrelevance the academy sometimes drifts toward. That’s why I popularize history in an accessible way: by practicing what I call historical mindfulness – taking scandals, fast-moving news, and emotionally charged debates and giving them historical depth.
Research Interests
My research focuses on applying quantitative methods and data science techniques to historical questions, particularly in the context of Russian history and contemporary Eastern European politics. I am passionate about making complex historical and analytical insights accessible to broader audiences.
